A Mac drive. Storage you own.
Your whole library in Finder, even when it’s larger than your disk. Keep what you need on hand. Let the rest live in storage you own.

How it works
Files show up in Finder. What you open is fetched. What you choose stays on hand. The difference is where your library lives: in a bucket you own.

Choose files and folders to keep locally. Check their status before you rely on them; keeping content on hand takes disk space.

Your account. Your bucket. Your keys.
Your file data lives in a bucket you control. You choose the storage account and keep control of its credentials.
Three layers, one library
An illustrative example · not a measured result
A library bigger than your laptop. Step through the demo story.
Three steps in an illustrative example
You have a 200 GB library and 18 GB free on your Mac. You want to work with a few files, without making space for the whole collection. Leeway makes the library available in Finder and fetches file content as it’s needed.
This is the demo story we’re building toward, not a benchmark. Local use depends on the files you open, what you keep on hand, and available space. Fetching content requires a connection to your storage.
For agents
Publish a snapshot for an agent to work from. Give it a defined version of the files, while you keep working on your drive.
Read-only status commands
$ leeway status --json
$ leeway pins --jsonA published version gives the work a clear starting point. Folder captures can include files from different times; stop writers before publishing. Agent permissions still set the boundary. Commands show the interface in development.
Ownership
Leeway connects your Mac to storage you control. Your bucket and its credentials belong to you.
The exit plan is to copy your files out through the mounted drive while your storage and metadata remain available.
The bucket’s raw objects are not a browsable folder of original files. Keep your metadata and credentials as well as your stored data.
In sailing, the lee is the sheltered side of a ship. Leeway is the room it has to drift without hitting the shore. Here are the shores.
